What items should you keep at work?
Whether you’re starting your first internship or you’re well into your career, you know the importance of having a well-stocked desk. A clean and organized workspace is conducive to an optimal work environment and with the amount of time we spend at work, it’s necessary to be prepared for the circumstances any given day may bring. I’ve found that having the following items at work make all the difference!
Shop My Picks
- A mirror
- Vitamins – If taking daily vitamins is part of your routine, why not keep them at your desk? Aside from a multivitamin, I keep Vitamin C (EmergenC) on hand for whenever I feel the sniffles coming on.
- Hairbrush
- Hairspray
- Hair ties
- Handwipes/disinfectant wipes – Keep germs at bay by wiping your keyboard and mouse on a regular basis.
- Mouthwash
- Gum
- Travel toothbrush
- Lint Roller
- Lotion
- Lipstick and lipbalm
- Tweezers
- Nail filer
- Band-Aids
- Tea
- Water bottle or mug – Don’t stay thirsty, my friends. Drink lots of water and tea and keep hydrated. And avoid drinking too much caffeine – it’s dehydrating.
- Flowers/Plant – Keeping a pretty and low-maintenance plant at your desk will liven up the space.
- Headphones – I get so much more work done when I’m wearing headphones. My favorites are these (and this price is unheard of!) Opt for the stereo type, so coworkers can see when you have them on, as opposed to little earbuds where it’s hard to tell.
- Extra shoes – For when you’re tired of wearing heels or the weather changes and your current pair no longer suffice.
- Deodorant
- Phone Charger
- Energy Bars – Stave off that afternoon sugar craving with a less sugary, protein-rich bar. I love KIND, LUNA, Nugo (Dark Chocolate Mint), and Think Thin (Creamy Peanut Butter).
- Extra jacket
- Workout clothes and shoes* If your office has a gym or a running path.
- Nail polish remover – Because manis chip at the worst times.
- Stain remover – Because spills happen. Particularly when you’re wearing white.
- Framed photos of favorite memories.
- Scarf – Offices run cold! Keeping a neutral scarf on hand can keep you warm and add to your outfit.
- Necklace – Another easy piece to add to an outfit is a cute necklace, so keep one that matches the majority of your office attire at your desk for days when you need it.
- A lamp – I use this one and frequently get asked where it’s from.
