The Lilly Pulitzer Frenzy: A Lesson On The Supply And Demand Of Cute Prints

And the Pulitzer prize goes to… anyone who got to shop the collection within five minutes of Target opening! If you experienced the Lilly Frenzy on Sunday morning, you know what I’m talking about. With all of the buzz, surrounding this release, I feel like I participated in a cultural phenomenon of sorts. It was enthralling to see how it all played out. From what I’ve heard, stores sold out in a matter of minutes. Target may have underestimated the demand for the Lilly Pulitzer collection, but I underestimated my ability to impulse buy under pressure.

Originally, I wasn’t too set on shopping the collection, but that all changed early on Sunday morning. Despite being up late the night before, I woke up at 6:00 a.m. for no reason other than the fact that I can’t ever seem to sleep in these days. I tried, but couldn’t go back to bed, so I decided I had no excuse not to check out the highly-anticipated line. When the store opened, I made a beeline for the scarves (I travel frequently and scarves are the easiest thing to pack, so yeah, I needed a cute scarf or five :)). They were located at the front of the store in Accessories, across from the Lilly clothing – a distance that seems minimal on any other occasion, but when there are 50 people swarming the area, it’s quite the trek. But I wasn’t going to spend more than a minute there. I picked up the scarves as quickly as I could without getting in anyone’s way (I refuse to be brash about grabbing things. Everyone’s in the same boat and it’s really not worth being rude to others), and made my way towards the dresses, only to find that they were gone. In 60 seconds. I really wanted the See Ya Later shift dress, but it was no where to be found. As you can see, I ended up finding a few eventually, but they’re not exactly my size… First of all, the pink dress is a child’s size Medium. I’m not sure if I should be ashamed or amused with the fact that it “fit”, but it’s pretty short (eek!). But it’s fine, I’m pretty sure this Macklemore gif sums up how anyone who got anything that morning felt:
